Artist Bio

American artist Terry Klaaren is a professional artist living and working in the Tampa Bay area and Central Florida foTerryr over 40 years. Born in Iowa in 1951, he lived in the Midwest and attended college in New York before moving to Tampa in 1972 with his wife, Dori. Continually painting, his numerous commissioned paintings and murals span from Canada and the US to Europe and the Caribbean, and his Fine Art and Plein air paintings have won numerous awards and recognition.

Additional samples of Klaaren's work can be seen throughout Temple Terrace, including on the restroom area at Riverhills Park and behind the service desk at the Temple Terrace Public Library. He also is the mastermind behind the "Recyclosaurus" just down Fowler Avenue at MOSI.


A Piece of Our Story

Klaaren's work was the first installation in the "Moments in Time" mural project. This piece focuses on the Hillsborough River and the famous Cypress trees. Riverhills Drive was carved out of the landscape in 1921, following the winding course of a 4-mile stretch around this river and opening up views to one of Florida's most attractive riverfronts.
