Responsibilities

Parks and Recreation, a division of Leisure Services, prides itself on maintaining the highest levels of service with regard to leisure-based programs and facilities. You can find out when the upcoming events are on the Leisure Services Calendar.

Overall, nearly 75 full-time, part-time, and seasonal personnel of the department manage over 300 acres of land throughout the city, including two community recreation centers, three athletic complexes, three district parks, 16 neighborhood parks, three tennis facilities, five swimming pools and two nature preserves.

In 2020, a wheelchair accessible baseball field located on the grounds of Lewis Elementary School was constructed which allows all youth, regardless of abilities, to enjoy America's past time.

Within the Parks and Recreation Division, a highly motivated and creative staff provides a wide variety of programs, events, and activities for all ages, abilities and interests.

A customer gets a treat at the Focus CafeFocus Cafe

Focus Café opened in the Family Recreation Complex in the summer of 2019 and has been serving tempting snacks and beverages ever since. Designed to serve as a job training site for Focus Academy’s Transition Program, the Café is staffed by post-12th-grade students with disabilities and overseen by a Focus Academy job coach.

Students handle tasks such as customer service, including customer sales and checkout, inventory, food prep, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and more. The Temple Terrace Rotary Club meets at the Family Recreation Complex on Tuesdays, and the Focus Café creates and serves pre-ordered custom sandwiches for members.

For those not in the Rotary Club, Tuesdays are also Hot Dog Day with hot dogs available for sale. Menu items vary by season, but current offerings include mozzarella sticks; churros; coffee and tea; assorted soda, sports drinks, and water; various candy and cookies, including cotton candy; muffins and donuts. During summer months, ice cream treats and popsicles are also available.

During the school year the Café is open midday Monday through Friday with slight variations in hours during the week due to student classes. Students open for business at 11:15am and close at 2:30pm,. The Café is closed on occasional Wednesdays for restocking activities and student field trips. Check the weekly posted schedule at the Café for details. Summer hours are typically 10am to 3pm. Focus Café gratefully recognizes the support of the City of Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex staff, the Temple Terrace Rotary Club, the Focus Academy DadSquad and TECO in establishing the Café and ensuring its success.
